Douglas Yeo faculty recital - Wheaton, IL, April 23

Post by yeodoug »

Hello all,

On Saturday, April 23, I will be giving a faculty recital at Wheaton College, Illinois. The recital, at 2:00 pm (Central Time) in the Concert Hall in the Armerding Center for the Arts on the Wheaton College campus (520 E. Kenilworth Ave, Wheaton; there's plenty of free parking behind Edman Chapel nearby), celebrates the 46th anniversary of my 1976 senior recital when I was a student at Wheaton College. Now that I'm turning 67 next month, I guess I really am a senior, so I've titled this recital, A Senior Recital. I'll be playing bass trombone, carbon fiber bass trombone, six-valve trombone, serpent, and ophicleide, and I'll be accompanied by piano, organ, and prerecorded track. Three of my Wheaton College students will join me for a trombone quartet.

You can see and download the program and program notes here:

In addition, anyone who comes to the recital will receive a complimentary copy of the newly released CD, "Like a River Glorious," which features performances by the Wheaton College Trombone Quartet from 1974–1976. That quartet included James Roskam, Eric Carlson (who recently retired from 30+ years in the Philadelphia Orchestra), William Meena, and me. That CD is not for sale - we've produced it as a giveaway project to promote Wheaton College's music program. It will only be given away to prospective students and those who attend this recital.

The recital will be streamed live at https://www.wheaton.edu/streaming but, of course, that won't be the same as being there. And I can't put a free CD in your hand over the live stream.

I'm not getting paid to play this recital but the College charges a modest admission fee for faculty recitals. Except students of any age (from young kids through college) are free. General admission is $10, seniors over age 60 are $5.

I don't use social media but if you know people in the Chicago area who might be interested in coming to this recital, please let them know. I think it will be a fun time. Thanks very much.
