My new (new-to-me/used) horn came last week, and to my surprise, inside the case was... a small "Woofle"/"wiffle"-ball tied to about a foot of string.

Any clue what this is? I can imagine that it can be used for a myriad of air-flow exercises - but that's all I could come up with.  Image

Is this a new horn, or a "new" horn?

Who did you buy it from?

Breathing tool or cat toy perhaps.

Ask the manufacturer?...

(And report back, please.)

Whoops, forgot to mention that. "New-to-me", as  I like to say. used 80's Yamaha. I'll add that to the OP

It's obviously a pitch pipe. Spin the whiffle ball as fast as you can above your head using the string until you hear a pitch. Then you can tune to it.

Possible they were using it as some kind of mute. That's common for, say, plunger mutes so they can be dropped without falling to the ground.  They may have been using it as a faux plunger or something else. Maybe... ?

I think it's to tie to the end of the slide to tease the cat.

It was being used by a middle schooler! They were using it during band to keep up morale!

Yeah, maybe he used his horn as a ball-in-cup game!
