Just wanted to give a shout out for Gene Smith.... I love his recordings with the Woody Herman band.... two live recordings to start firstly from live on Chicago

What are you doing the rest of your life?

And the second from Concord festival 1981   'You are so beautiful'  I asked Gene if this was inspired by Urbie's recording?

gene replied  'Everything I do is inspired by Urbie!!

Early in my university studies, I spent 4 years studying with Gene. Dry sense of humour and a distinct personality; while I didn't end up the same type of player, I definitely absorbed a lot about musicality, sensibility and embracing your personality through the horn.

Gene was also the major design guy for the Besson 940/941 trombones. Great horns!
