Multiphonics Resource Book

Post by ttf_anonymous »

Hooked on Multiphonics (2016), by Jen Baker, is now available on Ebook!

Hooked on Multiphonics, a book for trombonists and composers, aides the reader in developing extended techniques - particularly multiphonics. This is the first method book for trombone that guides both players and composers through the many types of multiphonics with exercises, musical examples, and step-by-step instructions. The Foreword is written by Stuart Dempster (The Modern Trombone), who is widely considered the father of extended techniques on the trombone.

So far, the book has sold well over 100 copies. People who have bought it are trombonists and composers from more than 12 countries as well as music libraries across the United States.

About me:
While working as a professional trombonist with composers for the past 15 years, I saw a lack of resources that thoroughly explains the intricate sounds trombones can produce with multiphonics and other extended techniques. Endeavoring to change this, I augmented my performing career with research and writing. My work in contemporary classical music as well as writing Hooked on Multiphonics has led me to perform and give clinics at trombone festivals (American Trombone Workshop and International Trombone Festival) a new music festival in Europe (Ostrava Days), various schools such as Yale University, and most recently as a guest faculty artist at the Complete Trombonist Workshop, held by Jim Pugh at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
