Trombone Ensemble rep for High School

Post by ttf_Taco Tuesdays »

Several of my High School trombonists are interested in getting a trombone ensemble for their solo & ensemble festival. We are in Wisconsin, and our festival music list does not have anything specified for brass choirs such as this in terms of music choice. All options for those ensemble therefor would have to be submitted to the organization that puts the festival on for approval. Does anyone know of any high quality pieces for trombone ensemble that would be do-able for high school students, and likely be approved for this sort of event? We are looking to have at least 6 students involved, and hoping to get up to at least 8.

Thanks for any and all suggestions!

Sam from NY here...

In our New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) solo manual under "miscellaneous Ensembles there are several options.
From Handel, Bach Brahms, Wagner to name a few...

The renaissance and baroque stuff can be very satisfying to play.
If you would like some titles you can PM me if you wish...

I don't have any recommendations for a competition piece, but for anyone trying to start a trombone ensemble, I would suggest Benjamin Coy's Trombonist's Hymnal. 384 Bach chorales arranged for trombone quartet which Mr. Coy generously offers as a free download.

I think those pieces would be great help to improve sight reading even for beginners. However I'm just wondering if there may be any audio or play along for those hymnals?
