I am updating a clinic that I have given in the past and would love some feedback. Can any of you (especially band directors) recommend grade 1 and 2 concert band literature that has interesting low brass parts? Pieces where the trombones and/or tubas/euphs get to carry the melody, play an interesting counter line, maybe a cool bass line. Anything that students will find to be fun and will help their development. Thanks!

Eugene Corporon from the University of North Texas has a series of books (Teaching Music Through Performance in Band) outlining excellent band music. There are one or two books that deal specially with Grade 1 and 2 band music. I don’t have mine anymore as I gave them to my son when I retired a few years ago. Google Teaching Music Through Performance in Band to find these books.

There is a Grade 1 arrangement of Don’t Stop Believing that is really good. The bass line is very repetitive , which allows for a level of difficulty that is still workable.
