Haydn Te Deum Alto ?

Post by Jantbn »

Am booked to do 1st trom in this.
Does anyone know if this part is written in Alto as it is in treble 'c' In the score.

I know it used to double the the Alto voice but would like to see a part before I commit to the gig.
Thankyou

Does it really matter? Whether it's written for alto or not is an open and disputable question. The more important question to me is what should you use, and the good news is the answer is : whatever you're most comfortable with and will allow you to best play the part. Whether it's an alto or small tenor or large tenor, the important thing is how you sound and play, not what equipment you're using. Of course you need to see the part before choosing what horn will best help you get the right sound.

The score is on IMSLP by the way. Without having looked at it, I would assume the range is between roughly G below middle C to C an octave above middle C, with possibility of occasional high Ds
