New Orleans Music Experiences

Post by snieckarz »

Hey all. Not sure where to place this post. Traveling to New Orleans for the first time in September and wondering what would be great music experiences in the city. Sure, Preservation Hall, but would love to stay away from stereotypical tourist music experiences. If there are any New Orleans musicians here I would love to chat. I'm open to anything from hearing street corner performances to hiring a Second Line band. Thanks!

Leroy Jones trumpet legend, probably Palm Court or Preservation Hall
Charlie Halloran trombone- plays with a bunch and maybe doing a calypso thing at wine bar on Monday
Tues night late at Maple Leaf for Rebirth Brass
Tuba Skinny maybe busking around town
Doreen Ketchens is the real deal on clarinet and often busking around town
Bonerama - Craig Klein, Matt Perrine, Mark Mullins and Greg Hicks
Kermit Ruffins - trumpet
Soul Rebels - brass band- not sure if they have a steady spot when not on road
DBA is a good spot
Frenchman street
