I love that. Jay Friedman talks about being a low brass you already have a dark sound, don't make it worse by trying to make the sound darker. By comparison to the rest of the orchestra, trombones are already dark. Great insight that's contrary to a lot of what you hear today.

Seems like there is lots of bright, just that the bright that shows up is smack in the middle of someone else's fundamental range, like trumpets, saxes, and cymbals.

Just posted our episode with LA studio bass trombonist (and current AFM Local 7 president) Bob Sanders. Bob's episode touches on some really great information about session playing, freelancing, teaching, the value of performance and Bob's personal fight with focal dystonia and his recovery.

Some great material in this interview for players of all ages and abilities.

Some of these are not showing up on Stitcher. I got the Pollard and Rejano. The Gilkes showed up today, but others have not.

Really enjoying this - thanks! If you want to interview an average amateur player with lots of experience in community bands and free gigs, I am your man.

This week in The Trombone Corner, Alan Kaplan! Alan Kaplan is one of our favorite humans and is a tremendous trombonist and performing artist. He's had one of the most successful careers in the history of the instrument, starting out with Buddy Rich, Don Ellis and working his ways into the lucrative Hollywood Studio scene. Join John Snell and Noah Gladstone as we interview Alan for about an hour about his early years, first gig on the road, Hoyt's Garage and what its like to be a freelancer playing for the pictures. It was one of our most favorite episodes and we're super excited to be publishing it today!

Hurry up over to www.trombonecorner.com or search for The Trombone Corner one your favorite podcast platform.

Listened to most of the episodes (partly during my practice time, shame on me ;-) ).

Great content, thanks for your efforts!

Until now I especially liked the ones with Bob Sanders, Alan Kaplan and Aubrey Logan (never heard of her before).
The others were also very interesting!

Looking forward to the next ones.

Aubrey is a force of nature. Amazing voice and pretty darn good trombone player too. And she does handstands in the middle of her show to show off her crossfit training.
