Yamaha YSL-645 (.525" bore, 8.5" bell)

Post by AvanDuuren » Wed Jun 20, 2018 4:53 pm

This is a really nice horn if you need something sweet, mellow, and easy to play. It’s got that consistent and warm Yamaha sound, great response, and excellent craftmanship. Plays big in the low register, and dolce in the upper register. Would work very well in light classical situations, solo work, chamber music, and especially 3rd bone in a big band.

The slide is fantastic! A 9/10 or better. One little spot of wear on one inner stocking, which is not red rot and does not affect movement.

No dents, and recently serviced. No question this one looks like it has been used. Lots of little scratches and lacquer spotting. This is not for you if you want the shiniest horn possible, so please see pictures. None of the cosmetic issues are playability related.

The horn is medium bore with an 8.5” bell (takes a small-shank mouthpiece), and is an earlier generation professional model that Yamaha doesn’t make anymore. Serial number #011535.
Asking $500 (Paypal F&F or Venmo) or best offer, which includes CONUS shipping only. Comes with the original Yamaha hard case.

Such a great horn. These tend to be well-loved here on TC.

Thank you! Just measured and it is indeed an 8.5" bell. Listing updated. I think it fooled me by the way it plays!

Posting since the OP hasn't replied. I picked it up as a backup for my other 645... :)

Good transaction. Horn plays as described. Now I've got one for our daughter (and perhaps she'll let me play my 3BF again sometime...)

OKi, my plan as well, for backup. On the other hand I've just bought a mint demo ex of the new 640 (Bb/F) and that slide works well with my 645 so the problem with my "sticky" 645-slide is solved anyway :-)

I'm selling my YSL646 still (ad is a little further down). If someone wanted a straight horn instead, I think I could make that happen as well.

Did you ever list your 646? I searched your posts and only find a WTB for a tuning slide. :idk:
