FS: Holton Revelation (1930s)

Post by Draagyn » Fri Sep 04, 2020 6:16 pm

We restored this bad boy several months ago, I just don't really need it anymore. It's a gorgeous horn, I've always loved the silver with the brass inner-bell. I would totally slap the counterweight on my bach 16m but it's too small. From either 1929 or 1930 according to the serial number and the Holton website. Comes with a mouthpiece! Here are the specs:

- .512" Bore
- 7.5" Engraved Yellow brass bell
- Nickel outer slides
- Friction-fit bell/slide attachment (NO SLIDE LOCK)
- Adjustable counterweight
- Conn Innes mouthpiece
- Brand new water key (see photos)
- Re-soldered the silver for main brace connection on the slide (see photos) - done by one of the best brass techs in the west, D.J. Barraclough

Bell Engraving:
Revelation
Made By
Frank Holton
Elkhorn, Wis.

Counterweight Engraving:
Frank Holton & Co.
Elkhorn, Wis.
Patented Aug.7.1917

Make me an offer! I gave it an ultrasonic bath as well so it's fresh and ready for you. I will probably be listing on Ebay and Reverb as well.
Thanks,
Jay

I have a similar model of slightly earlier vintage (1923) in gold plate. Not looking to sell mine, but I do want to put in a plug for the horn that is selling here. Very solid instruments with a slightly heavy slide. If you take some time and find the right mouthpiece to match with it, those old Holton Revelations can really play.

This beauty is still for sale if you're interested...! I'm selling a few things to fund a new studio I'm building. Just hoping to make the money back on the repairs at this point.

Nice horn, does it tune ok to A=440 and further on up to A=442?
