Trombone at the races

Post by robcat2075 »

.

Report from yesteryear...

DayOfSurprises.jpg

Well, this IS a surprise...

TromboneRaceC.jpg

$400 for the owner of Trombone! That's like $11,000 in dog years.

Trombone shows up a number of times in these track reports, and there seems to have been some sort of scandal regarding the fixing of the steeplechases.

Horse racing? Not on the up-and-up? I am shocked.

But I'm afraid Trombone met an unfortunate end...

Ouch! My fried Flicka!

Now we'll never find out how he got that name!

I've found out a bit more about horses...

The initials by the horse's name tell you something of the color and age/sex of the horse.

The b.c for Trombone means he was a "bay colt".

Bay is a color. A mid brown with black "points". The book cover below shows approximate "bay " coloring.
A "colt" is a male horse under five years of age.
ch. means "chestnut" coloring, darker than "bay".

And g.... eww... ouch. Don't ask. You don't want to know!

Trombone had a pedigree! You can see it going back five generations.
