Help with fitting Sheridan Get-A-Grip

Post by pickupleftoff »

Hi,

I cannot for the life of me make this thing work. I have tried it on an Edwards T-350 and now my new horn, a Courtois AC440. I cannot manage to shape it so that the top half does not fall in-line with the path the F-attachment trigger needs to travel. On top of this the thread is coming unwrapped on one side and all I've tried to do is fit it properly.

Did I miss the memo where this is only meant for certain models of trombone?

So, I have used Get-A-Grip for probably 10 years now and I have always had to hold it a certain way so the valve didn't hit the back of it.

Here's my hand on my bass with the GaG totally flat against the brace-

Here it is how I actually hold it-

And the same sequence on large tenor-

I use my pointer finger to kind of create a little brace, to prop up the grip a bit from the slide. This doesn't work on every single horn, but on most Bach ish instruments it's great.

Thanks for taking the time to show some photos, I see what you are doing there. Using that approach it is closer but I still can't completely compress the trigger. Maybe it's just not meant for this brand

Could be! Can you adjust the lever at all?

I can't. I don't think it's meant for me or perhaps the brand of horns I've tried it with. Thanks again for the advice.

When I got mine, I think I had to twist it a little. I put the part that holds the horn in a vice and used a mallet to bend the big part backwards. I love mine and it doesn't cause any problems. If I get one for another horn, I'm sure I'll have to adjust it and then enjoy it.
