Cases for TIS tenor/bass trombones

Post by BassboneJ25 »

Hey,

Sorry if this was discussed already in the chat. I am curious if anyone would know of a case that would work with a TIS tenor or TIS bass.

Thanks!

I have a Conn 40H TIS Ballroom in a Holton Collegiate case. It's not ideal, but it fits. I have another 40H in a case from some Chinese horn (don't know which) and it fits as well.

If you have a German horn, all bets are off.

"Which" TIS instruments are you asking about?

The reality is TIS trombones really aren't any different, dimensionally, to TIB designs. However, the tuning mechanism on the slide may interfere with some case slide compartments.

My Kanstul 1662 w/TIS fits in a gig bag made for a Yamaha bass. TIS slides can be a little longer than normal if the tuning mechanism is left out a little. I used to keep the Kanstul in a nice protec.

I didn’t know that modern TIS horns were in similar dimensions as a trombone with TIB. My conception has always been of the long slide Elky 70h.

Which was why I asked the question I asked.

The TIS horns I make have the same proportions as TIB instruments, so the only potential case fit issue is with the Opera Wheel tuning mechanism,

Of course I can also make the short bell/long slide version, if someone wanted that. Then yes, there can potentially be case issues! 🙂

I got a Gewa double case. I think it would do great for any slide. I took a bass and a 547 tenor the other night. Worked great.

On the other hand, Because you can carry a lot it this case, it can get very heavy.

I have taken this case with just one extra slide and it was an easier carry.

I remember taking a gig bag with all the stuff I could ever want. Got home and realized the bag was not that much lighter then the case and if I wanted lighter, I needed less stuff.
