Shires slide - change tenon?

Post by TheBoneRanger »

I’m considering buying a used Shires slide and having the tenon changed to a Bach tenon/threads.

Is this as simple (?) as having the Shires tenon unsoldered and replaced, or is the tenon on the Shires slide integrated with the rest of the hand grip?

Andrew (excuse my terminology)

It depends. The brand new Shires dual bore I bought for my Bach fits perfectly... I thought I was going to have to change it out too!

The 3yo Shires slide I used on my Bach today was a no-go.

Some years ago I had a the tenons on a small bore Shires slide changed to Yamaha...... It was easily done by the technician and wasn't very expensive!!!
