They look like Instrument Innovations rotary valves.

Does that mean you have a pair of Shires rotors that are currently underutilized?

Work looks great, BTW.

at $195 each and the rave reviews I've been hearing, I'd say Olsen is poised to take over the world!
I contacted him last year about making some with straight port tubing (replacements for King valves), he can make them in any you want.

Absolutely! They are great valves and Mike & Kim are THE best to work with!!!!
I think they are as good if not better than Rotax, CR or anything else out there!

Hi All,

I registered, but am very busy. The owner reports those valves are quite the improvement over the old shires rotors.

Andy you have my phone number, you can buy those old units if you want.

Benn,

I'm fitting a set of these, and they don't seem to fit the .593 id ferrules. Once they're cut shorter do they slip in, or will it need some convincing?

One of my friends recently had John Sanhagen put a pair on a Conn 73H. Man they blow great!

Random question but are the bass rotors oversized like Greenhoe or Shires rotors or are they standard size? I noticed the rotors look like they might be oversized like Greenhoes but they feel like really well made regular rotors.

I ask because I know companies like Rotax make their rotors in multiple sizes.

I have a 1987 Bach 42BO and am considering the exact same mod. How did yours work out, total cost, who did your work? How much cutting or new tubing? It be great to see pics and see your results.

Thanks!

Brassedon, I`ll let you know
The repair tech I went to here in Sarasota didn`t want to touch it, so I`m going to Rochester, NY in 2 weeks on Vaca and I have a friend there that is an incredible repair guy and he`s going to do the work.
My 42BO is the best large bore horn I`ve ever played. but it was ugly , lacquer coming off etc..
So I masked off parts and stripped the bell, just the bell but not inside the bell flare. WOW!! the horn really came alive. Then I stripped the Hand slide and again it got more responsive and easier to play.
I play in a Trombone quartet and the other 3 guys all play Conn`s (2 88H`s and a 112H Bass) They played my bach and all said it played easier top to bottom with a much freer upper range.
So I`ll let you know when I get the valve on.
