Unsticking slow K&M stands

Post by TromboneForTwo »

I was curious about what lubricant I can use to help free up slower slides on the K&M 14990. Just got a second one and didn't realize how bad my old one had gotten
Would it be bad to use some hetman I had lying around? Specifically talking about the main slider that controls the tripod legs. Thank you!!

You could probably use any handy lubricant, oil-based or synthetic. Can't do much harm. If you don't like it, wipe it off. You'll be able to easily reach 7th position, and your stand will still be in tune!

First I would clean off the central portion. Often that can get dirty, which will make the plastic spacer move more slowly over it. I don't think the hinge points contribute much to how much effort it takes to open.
