Wick 0AL - non HW, non Heritage

Post by Bach5G »

I have had this sitting on my shelf for a while now, but never really spent any time on it. I’ve been playing a bit more bass recently and I’ve been going through my collection, most of which are in the Bach 1 1/2 to 1 1/4 size range. I’m not sure what to make of the Wick. A little darker than the Bachs. The articulations seem a little fuzzy. More orch than band, I’d think.

Does anyone have experience with this piece and Wick bass trombone mpcs generally? Blast?

I think you're on the right tack. The OAL is only a little bigger than most 1/2Gs, not as big in the rim as most 1 1/4Gs. but Its very deep for the rim diameter. I like the sound I get on it but the rim diameter is too small for me. Could be the ticket for those who want a dark full sound in the 1/2G rim size range. I like the way the 0AL sounds in orchestra, and could also work in a wind ensemble or orchestra, might work in a large jazz ensemble section, though definitely not the classic 1 1/2G sound.
