Props to Doug Elliott

Post by Davetall »

I called him on Tuesday, discussed what I was trying to do/change. We settled on some parts which he had in stock. They arrived Thursday.

He has knowledge he’s happy to share and fast service. I like to thank people who provide great service.

Thanks, Doug!

Yeah. I could have avoided years of frustration by seeing him sooner.

Never too late though.

Another recent DE convert here. I was fortunate to catch up with Doug at ITF in Iowa City and had my Conn 79H and Schilke 51B with me at the time. At Benn Hansson's insistence, I give a DE combo a try and my playing is forever changed for the positive. The move to the DE piece was an epiphany in the same way picking up my first Conn trombone was 11 years ago. Behind the bell I could tell the difference and those out front noticed it even more. Doug ended up going with two different combos initially, added a third in the mix, and we swapped a few parts but ended up where we began. The following Sunday I offered special music at church and those who have heard me before noticed a difference in the sound - they could not name it but knew it was different in a good way.

Skip forward two months when a 1939 Conn 32H arrived at my house. I played around with other mouthpieces that work well for me for smaller horns and nothing really fit. I grabbed the DE combo for my 79H and gave it a try in the 32H. Lightening struck twice! Magic happened again!

My combos are:
.522" 79H and 32H = LT102/LTD/D4
.547" horns = LT102/LTH/H9

Thank you Doug for generously sharing your time, wisdom, and self with me.
