60+ size rounded rim suggestions?

Post by el2002 »

My chops are on the fleshier side, and I’ve always preferred rounder rim contours. Steeper rims ware me out quickly. :D I currently play a Yamaha doug yeo piece but the rim’s still pretty steep on that. Schilke rims are immediately uncomfortable for me. Bach pieces don’t go large enough for my liking. I’ve also tried a Griego 0.25 (too steep) and a Griego markey 95, which is supposed use the GP rims - also too steep of a rim for me. Any larger mpc suggestions with a bach-like contour?

the GP rims are the roundest I can think of. Have you tried a GP7? The Markey rims are much flatter.

I make quite a variety of rims, in many sizes.
It sounds like you need a more rounded inner edge, and possible a wider contour also.
You might look at my XB series, for the large sizes, and a medium-wide rim in my 115, 116, or 117 inside diameter. Or in my LB series, medium-wide 115 or 116. I have other options too, rounded rims that aren't listed on my website. - 111 up to 114 size rounded Bach-style rims are in stock. I'd have to make anything bigger than that.

btw, you had a duplicate post that I deleted.

Literally any of my rims I hate rims with any kind of bite to them. I'd guess my 29mm would be the equivalent size you want. I can do the rims at several didferent widths.

That's interesting. The Markey Rims seem to be about the same roundness as my Hammond 20BL, so I'm trying to imagine how much rounder they are. I have a Laskey 85MD and that is pretty much flat for a good portion of the top, with bevels on the side.

I'm sure they're not, but the GP6 I had felt hemispherical. Super duper round. I hate that feeling haha!

The GP6 I have feels like a copy of a Schilke 60 rim. Nearly identical to my 114 rims from Doug.

Yes the GP6 is nearly hemispherical, rounded a lot on both inside and outside. At least some of them are... But I've seen a lot of "variation"

Compare the outside edge, nothing like mine or a 60

Have you tried the "regular" GP? It has a narrower cup but also a wider overall diameter.

No, I personally really don't like the cup design on them. The Markey pieces are much more to my liking.
