How do the small shank sizes work Noah? What would they compare to "roughly?"

Originally in the 1930s, The 4*1 and 4*3 were originally designed for motion picture recording, and were equally popular for radio, dance, theater, and concert band work. The 5*1 and 5*3 are ideal for a broader sound where a full, sonorous tone quality is required.
4*1 25mm inner rim, Medium/firm bite rim shape, Medium cup, #1 bore
5*1 25mm inner rim, Medium/firm bite rim shape, Deep cup, #D bore
4*3 25mm inner rim, Medium/slightly rounded rim shape, Medium cup, #1 bore
5*3 25mm inner rim, Medium/slightly rounded rim shape, Deep cup, #D bore

From the archives!
Some pics of a very young George Roberts with his Purviance mouthpieces (and a valve trombone!) along with Carroll Purviance (on the left with the mustache)

About the size of a Bach 3G across the inner rim. Very wide rim. Deep V shaped cup. Small throat. Not a great blower but very well made.

It's so cool to see these back in production! I've had several Purviance pieces over the years. I still have the 4*3 from Rick Stepton and a Reeves-made 1A (his 4*1) that I bought from Carl Fontana's daughter.
I also have a mystery bass piece - Marked C.M. Purviance Los Angeles with an "S" stamped at the top of the shank. Lightly etched in between the other stamps are "P.G." and "Phillips"
