The 5GM is deeper and heavier.
In general for me, the NY series has a more interesting front to the note- I recall someone calling it a sparkle. Try them both, but perhaps compare apples to apples to see the differences in each line (either a 5GM to a NY 5.5M or 5GSD to NY 5.25).
