I have searched the Web and this Forum for a conversion table for mouthpieces ..... and I found many but none of them contains King mouthpieces. Also no documents from the various owning companies of the King brand/factory over the time.

I would like to know which Mount Vernon mouthpiece would be alike to my King 29.
If anyone of you have some information for me, I would be very happy.

Mine feels like a 4 rim, but a little deeper than a 4G.

It's also a good pairing with my Cool Winds plastic trombone.

I "gifted" my King 29 to Tom Rice some time ago. As I recall, it was King's version of a bass trombone mouthpiece – Cup I.D ~26.75mm; throat 6.63mm, deep V-shaped cup. It had an "oversize" large shank that fit best with King trombones.

Probably no Bach / Mt Vernon close equivalent.
Specs for a Bach 2G: Cup I.D. 26.75mm; throat 7.00mm.
But the cup shape is probably rather different from the King's, as would be the shank.
(And, in any case, these Bach mouthpieces rarely matched their specifications! )

My 4B came with a King 29, IIRC. I switched to Bach 6 1/1 AL, then a 5G. My original 29 is long gone. What I regret though is my teacher, who consulted with King and demo'ed horns, gave me a modified 29 with a flatter rim they had been experimenting with sometime in the mid 70s.. That also is long gone. Wish I still had it and knew the story behind it.

Checked my old King catalogs from 1971 and 1973. 4B, 5B, and Duo Gravis horns all came with a King 29 mouthpiece. All other horns came with an 11M.

I have 4 of them in my collection, all very close to being identical. I would describe them as about 1.04" inside, similar to a Bach 3G size but not quite as deep as the 3G I have. And a thin, rounder rim both inside and outside. I don't recall any Bach rims shaped like that until you get up to 1-1/4G size.

It's pretty small as bass trombone mouthpieces go. Smaller and shallower than a 2G.

So sort of like a 104N/H size? It's definitely deeper than my G.

I recently got my MT Vernon 6,5A .... the sound is comparabel with the King 29 but feels safer in the really low registers and different feeling on the lips.
Will keep looking for a Mt Vernon 2 or 3.

Don't discard the King 29. It was the original mouthpiece supplied with your King 5B, and is a good fit.

The Bach 6½A is a much smaller mouthpiece, so is easier for you to play as a beginner. But you may grow into a larger mouthpiece such as the King 29 or something like a Bach 5G or 4G or 3G (or near-equivalent from another manufacturer). as your playing progresses.

The King 29 mouthpiece has, I believe, an oversize shank to fit the large King 5B trombone receiver; other mouthpieces may drop in farther, possibly affecting intonation.

Mt Vernon 2g big money......why not work with Doug Elliott and he can put together what you need under his system

Big money is relative .... depends on what you get for it ..... even for one buck!
