Rath L5BB

Post by Ted »

Hi all,

I've got some questions on the Rath L5BB.

When I use it with my King 4BF it's a great match, but somehow it doens't work quite well with my Conn 88HTCL. Any guesses why that would be? and can anyone give some alternatives to try? I was thinking of a Bach 5GS, but don't know if the rimfeel is the same. I just don't now if the mouthpiece and horn just doens't match, or because I use the King for Bigband style playing, and the Conn for the more classical pieces.

Hope you can give some helpful advise.

I use an L5BB Lightweight on my R4F. I used to use a 5GS but found the rim uncomfortable (and it was a little edgy sounding), hence the switch to the Rath piece. The L5BB also feels like there is a little more room in the cup.

I also have an L4 1/2 and an L4BB both of which are standard weight but I just don't get on with them on trombone, but quite happily use either on euphonium.

Is yours standard weight or lightweight? That seemed to be the breakthrough issue with me, or is it just that some mouthpieces don't work for some people in certain instruments?

Maybe the BB is too shallow in the Conn? Maybe a regular Rath 5?
