mouthpiece question

I switched from a bach 7C to a Schilke 51B for my small bore mouthpiece.
I`m finding that the 51B is just a little too deep for my lead playing.
I wish Schilke made a 51 series with a Bach style "C" cup or bach made a 5C .
Any suggestions for an equivalent?

They do make a 4C.

I think Hammond’s 12 is the equivalent to a “5” size. Stork’s T1 I think is a little smaller. Doug Elliott always.

Something else to think about besides cup shape.....
You're accustomed to a Bach 7C that has a bore of 0.227".
The Schilke 51B has a bore of 0.257".
Pretty big jump.

Schilke 51B is actually a pretty shallow mouthpiece, but (in addition to a much larger cup I.D. than the Bach 7C - 25.63mm vs. 24 75mm) - it has a much larger throat (25.63mm vs. 5.85mm). Apples vs grapefruit.

Suggestion: Contact Doug Elliott for a mouthpice that's just right for you – or try a slightly larger stock mouthpiece such as a Bach 6¾C, a Schilke 47 or 47B, or a Bach 6½A, or a Denis Wick 7CS.

Schilke is like the shallow end of a symphonic mouthpiece, but still symphonic.

Try a Yamaha 51B. A bit smaller diameter than a Schilke 51B, and considerably shallower.

I have a Harry Watters mouthpiece for sale, but I feel it’s smaller than a 51 rim and bigger sound-wise than a 7C. It’s a ripping mouthpiece, though. And I just remembered about the Nils Landgren Yamaha mouthpiece. It’s cheaper than a Watters, but also more 6-1/2-ish and deeper.

Try a 5gs. They are not much deeper than a C cup.

Doug fit my current .522" mouthpiece combo at ITF 2018: LT102/LT-D/LT-D4

The Elliott combo abruptly ended my 30 year love affair with various Schilke 51Bs and I have not looked back.

With than in mind, he suggested the LT102/LT-C+/LT-D2 is the combo I use for my 24H and 32H.

I can also use the C+ cup in place of the D and it gives the larger horns more bite but the D cup is a great fit for my 79H.
