King 3B-F - what's it worth?

Post by Kingfan »

I aquired a second King 3B-F and I am trying to figure out best route to sell. 3B-F sn 526XXX, so about 1975 vintage. Bell laquer is pretty good, nickel outer slides not so much. Minor dents, needs new rotor stops. Slide stockings have no plating loss. Original coffin case, but as the horn has been in a closet for 20+ years it is very musty. Slide works well, tuning slides all move nicely. I'm thinking $700 plus shipping as is. Is that too high? :???:
A good bath or chemical clean and new rotor stops would make it a nice player.

That's a reasonable price. I've seen them go for twice that and for half of that, relative to their condition. Sounds like this is somewhere in the middle. Possibly slightly undervalued but if you ask $900 or so (as I have for the YSL646 I have for sale that's in similar condition) it'll possibly take awhile to push whereas it'll go a lot faster at the $700 point. At least that's my 2c

Thanks. New twist to the story, though. My own 3B-F is only a few years older. It has a lighter tone laquer so probably has had major work, and I sent the slide off to the Slide Dr. when I bought it ten years ago for a tweak. The one I am thinking of selling has the older dark King lacquer and the bell section is better cosmetically. I'm gonna keep one and sell one, now got to decide which one! I have a friend coming over Friday to work on some quintet parts so I'll see if he thinks one is a better player than the other.

$700 is what I payed for mine on ebay a couple of years ago. It was in good shape with no dents and a good slide.
