Stomvi trombones

Post by SwissTbone »

What do you guys know about stomvi trombones?

They do pop up on classified sites here in europe from time to time and they look really sexy.

Anybody on here plays them?

I know a bass trombonist here about plays one and he sounds fantastic. But he already sounded great before playing stomvi.

I tried them in person 7 or so years ago along with most of the Conn Selmer line up and have no love for the Stomvi horns. The tenors felt large and were heavy. Pair all that with Thayer valves (which I dislike) and it left me unimpressed. Heavy bell, heavy slide, and heavy braces are not appealing to me.*

* I will name my bias and admit I love the vintage Conn and vintage Conn-inspired horns. I find the Yamaha Xenos to be a great option in the large bore world and I am not fan of Bach horns even after 15 years of playing Bachs. As Sam Burtis would say... Your mileage may vary.
