Question about a Bach 50 bell engraving

Post by StPetersBone »

A recently acquired Bach 50 has an interesting notch in the 0.

Has anyone seen this before and/or know the possible meaning or significance?

Looks like there are some nicks on the rest of the bell. I'd guess it wasn't part of the original engraving but I could be mistaken.

True, the horn shows its age and use... but the line just seemed too uniform to be incidental.

Of course, I could be completely wrong.

Could be a smart way to ID your horn without being too obvious if it ever got lost or stolen.

Looks to me like it was Friday afternoon, and the bell maker couldn't find the "0" stamp. Eh, a "Q" is close enough...
