smallbore, definitely Bach.
LT16M with narrow neck, LT16M sterling with open neck, LT8G, MtV 6vii bell with 9 slide. I have both a brass and silversonic HN White era 2B as well but prefer the Bachs for most stuff.

Large bore, I really dig my Edwards. I'm on the fence about the 525 though.

I have King, Blessing, Conn, Shires and Jupiter 'XO' horns. The XOs are my most played by a good margin.

Yamaha. I trust their slide and assembly quality. Plus the 830 has the sound quality I want.

My member name kinda says it all, like "FeelMyRath" does. I grew up a few miles from the King factory in Eastlake. First horn was a 606 when I was starting 6th grade, then I picked up my 4B at the factory from George McCracken through my teacher when I was in high school. Hence my love for Kings. I have a 2B, 3B-F, and 4B-F from the 70s, a 3B from the late 50s. My oddball is a Holton TR180, found in a pawn shop. I love the Holton, but would swap for a Duo Gravis or other King bass "just because". That said, have owned/played entry level Yamaha, Selmer, Holton, Old, and Getzen trombones but never have played modern boutique horns. I'm afraid to find out what I'm missing!

I love my Conns, 79h and 88h. I like 48h, but still looking for a favorite small bore. My favorite bass is an Olds P24g. I have liked all the large bore Holtons I've owned except the 181. I've tried to like Yamahas, and even though they have great slides, the sound seems too one dimensional to me. I've owned a couple Kanstuls, and haven't fallen in love. Edwards and Shires big horns are just not my thing, except for the MD+. Rath I think I could get used to.

I'm a Conn guy for large bore tenors and a Conn and Holton guy for bass trombones. All my heroes played those horns and I'm just drawn to how they sound.

That said out of the modern makers the best horns I've had the pleasure of blowing are a M&W Bach 50B style horn at ITF 2017 and original Greenhoe 62H style horns owned by some local LA cats. If I ever get the money for an M&W bass I hope to put together something that is either like my Minick bass or a Holton TR185.

Been a Shires guy for a few years now though I've recently had quite a few Yamaha come into my stable...

My profile name says it all: Conn.
I love the sound of the old Conn's.

When you only have one trom to use, I guess it makes the question redundant!!

Shires here.

I have a lot of brands in my stable but my heart is in old Elkhart Conns. I have a few, including 2 72Hs, an 88H, and 3 non-trombones. Love my '70s 3B and the other brands I have represented, but it's obvious I'm a Conn guy.

Your 65 Bach 12 is a player! I know from living with it for about a month. Great horn.

Bachs. At least, it better be, I have about a dozen of them. Currently in the house are a pair of Shires valve sets on the basses and one Holton flare and a Conn Fuchs that needs to be put back together. I tried Edwards for a while, didn't work for me until I put a Bach flare on it and a Conn 62H. Both were great horns, but I could never figure out what was my sound in an ensemble. I preferred them both in empty rooms, but could never figure out how loud I was playing in a group or what type of projection I was getting. The little tweak of a soldered rim really changes the feedback for me. Recordings sounded fine, great even. But I just felt that I was having to think too hard to get there.

Cheers,
Andy

Excellent question "grenade", dukes.
This is a topic I am sure we could all extinguish many adult beverages discussing.
I think initial experience and exposure play a part in it.
Mostly everyone playing around me coming up had Kings or Conns.
I have always preferred Kings and Yamaha but just did not have many opportunities to play Bachs, for instance.
I have liked the Conns I have played by always seem to go back to Kings.
A buddy in school had a beautiful Martin that played like butter (no idea what model). Wish I had that horn now though.

Different brands plays different. Variations does not bother me but if I should only keep one horn I think I would keep my Bach 36BO. Other favourites are Conns and Kanstuls. There are to many good horns.

Unfortunately my budget has to dictate this choice. If I were left to my own devices I would have Shires across the board, possibly some Mt. Vernon/Elkhart Bachs. I will say though that I have not played a Yamaha that I didn't like. Some I like more than others but they are consistently well playing instruments.

How about a hodge podge of vintage horns. My Olds P24G is the daily player, an Elkhart 88H for a large bore, a 60's 3B Concert, and a 44H. Add to that a Cerveny 4 rotor valve Eb Tuba and a Yamaha YEP-321 Euph. I do like the Olds and if I can clear out a couple of horns I will try to get a few more.

i play multiple brands of horns:

the 3 horns i play most are:
-Bass trombone, which is a german "Kühnl & Hoyer .563" (that's the name of the model, not the bore size)
I play this horn most of the time and practice is mainly done on this one

-2 Large bore tenor trombones, both Yamahas.
A 448G Bb/F (.547 bore) i got from my parents when i was still in school. It was my main instrument until i switched to Bass as a main.
And a 641 straight tenor from the 70's if i recall correctly, which has a somewhat strange bore size of .551! Since owning this as an addition i prefer to take this with me, if i am in need of a tenor (in addition to the bass), as the switch from bass to this one is less drastic and it blows really really well. :pant:

I also own a small bore Kühnl & Hoyer, which is in dire need of a repair, so it doesn't get any use right now. The slide bow is bent in beyond belief.. :weep:
I'm glad to say this was the work of the previous owner and i got it really cheap. :shuffle:

So i suppose i'm kind of a Künl & Hoyer / Yamaha guy, though when looking for a bass the one Yamaha i tried didn't really hit the spot :idk:
