Selmer trombone serial # list?

Post by gregwaits »

I have a Selmer Special 23 K Modified. I’m trying to determine year of manufacture.

Is a list accessible anywhere. I can only find Selmer Sax, trumpet, clarinet, bassoon info.

The number is 4 digit. 27XX

Thanks

I had the earlier Selmer 23 Special some years back and found it very difficult to date; I even tried emailing the HQ in Paris (France!) They didn't reply.
I eventually met the UK Bach sales rep. in the local brass shop, John Packer's, and asked him for help. I received a reply about 2 weeks later.
Good luck in your quest.

Cheers

I have two 23 K modified’s serial numbers 304x and 330x. I’ve looked at old catalogs and estimate they were made between 1954-1962.

It’s too bad there is such little info on French Selmer tbns. They are the red headed stepchildren of the company. Of course the Selmer saxophones get lots of press.

How do you like them? Mine is a bit nose heavy. It makes it seem like the slide is heavy….but it isn’t.

The horn plays surprisingly open considering it is a .490 bore.

They have the best low register, amazing considering the small bore size. I still prefer my King 3B overall, but not by much. One of the 23 K's needs a new crook... It's an ongoing project.
