Getzen 3047 AF

Post by dorutzzu92 »

Hello

Can you tell me please your opinions for a getzen 3047 AF? I found one at a good price (new, in shop exponant , but looks like brand new. No wear at all) and i am thinking to buy it
Are they good horns? What is the diference between edwards t350 and getzen 3047 AF?
Please help with some advices! Thank you!

The Getzen 3047 is basically made from Edwards parts, but is not modular. You cannot swap parts like on a T-350. If you like the horn as it is, it's a great value.

The 3047AF is, as I have been told, basically the most popular / mainstream configuration of an Edwards T350. I remember someone had posted which bell was closest to the one used on the Getzen, but I forget what it was.

If it works for you, go for it.

I'd call the Getzen custom series "semi-modular." The only interchangeable parts between custom series and Edwards tenors and basses are the leadpipes and tuning slides (i.e. an Edwards red dual radius tuning slide should fit a custom series). By contrast, the bell sections have different spacing between the main braces, and the slide tenons are different (Conn style on Getzen custom vs Bach style on Edwards). However, you could find a bell from a 3047AFR (red brass) and change out the yellow bell for the red if you need a specific sound (or vice versa).

That said, the Getzen custom series are very nice instruments, and if you don't like it, you're not losing a whole lot of value when reselling. If you get it, start with the #2 pipe (2 grooves/3 ridges) and go from there.

Can you test play it?

As already noted, the Getzen 3047AF is a very fine trombone if in good condition. Take care of the (very nice) axial valve and slide, and it will serve you for many years. If you tire of it, it will be relatively easy to re-sell.

I have a few students that have bought this trombone and I’m really impressed with it. So much that if I ever replace my bass trombone it’ll be for a Getzen 3062 or edwards b454; whichever I find first for the right price.

No, Getzen uses a different slide connector. It is not a hard modification but it will not fit as is.

They are! In retrospect my trombone life may have been a lot different had I picked up one back in the early 00s, instead of going for a Bach 42T with a poorly set up valve. Live and learn.

Go for it. I recommended a Getzen 3047 to a former student and he loves it and can grow into it for years to come.
