King 2B+ valve section

Post by Jimbbob »

So I have a King 2B+ as my main small bore now. Great horn, 2007, or so. I recently sold a Yamaha 356G and am already missing the flexibility of this size horn with trigger.

I guess my main question:
Could I pair the 2B+ .500 bore slide with a bell with F attachment? It sounds like my options would be a 3BF or possibly 607F? Would there be any tuning issues with this combo?

My 2B+ has a yellow brass bell, and is very lively. Is there a model, or perhaps era of horn that might darken or tame the 2B+ just a tad? Would be great to have 2 options, (straight and trigger), to mate with this slide.

Thanks for any insight and any advice.

Should fit a 3B/F AFAIK.

I sometimes use a 0.500” slide from a Benge 170 with a 3B/F bell section. Intonation is good, overall it works well, even if I haven’t found many applications for it yet.

Your 2B+ slide should have the same connector as my Benge 170 and should correctly fit a 3B/F receiver, but not a 607F.

A fairly comprehensive list:

3B/2B+/606/Benge 170/Tempo with 8” nickel bell are compatible

3B+/607/608/609/Benge 160,175 are compatible

4B/5B/Benge 165 and 190 are compatible

Different tenons between each series, so some mods would have to be done to put a 3B slide on a 3B+ bell section

I’m about to list my 605F which sounds like it might be what you’re looking for. Closer to a. 2B+ with a valve but with an unsoldered bell bead so it isn’t quite as lively. Send me a message if you’re interested and it’ll excel my picture taking and listing !

If you get rid of your 2b+ bell let me know! I've been looking for a 7.5" bell to pair with my 3b slide.

I’ve got 2 7.5” king bells. One has a bell section but it’s not setup for that slide but I can get it to you at a good price. Original plan was to put it on a franken 485/500 but I like my 607F too much. Don’t think I’ll ever get to the project. One is silver plated the other is lacquered.
