Opinions on the Shires q36Ga/Ya

Post by Ediespagetti1000 »

Hi folks. I´m looking to buy myself a new bass trombone and wondered witch one to get. I really liked playing the Shires q36, but wanted some input. Have some experiences to share? How do you find the horn? Maybe a horn for sale? Hit me up. Thanks in advance

Have a good summer, my fellow trombonist.

I had the opportunity to try some q horns vs the regular shires models at ITF recently. The q horns are definitely well made responsive instruments.

I tried both a q36ga and a q36gr. I really wanted to like the ga but the gr had a much shorter stroke to actuate the valve. Both horns were responsive but in the end I went with the rotor. Would recommend you try both to see which one you prefer.

Bottom line, I chose the Shires Q over Conn 88 and Bach 42bo. Also tried some custom Shires at the same time. I couldn't justify the price difference with the Customs vs how the played.

The more I play my Q the more I like it.

Oops, I misread, I only have a Q30gr, not a bass.
