Shires XT Slide??

Post by Crazy4Tbone86 »

As I was doing my weekly perusal of Ebay, I saw something that was very new and interesting to me. There was a listing for Shires large bore trombone with a .554 bore slide and leadpipes labeled with XT to fit the .554 bore. I am assuming that it has a bass crook. The description states that the trombone is about 12 years old.

I have never heard of this Shires .554 bore slide option before. Was it offered for a limited time? Is it only a special order item?

Probably like the bonezilla slides, just a couple made for a short time.

My understanding is the XT slides were essentially prototypes. Somethign to the effect that Steve was trying to make something that played like a traditional large bore but had the sound of the Chicago .562 setups they were trying to make at the time.

Cool, thanks for the information so far. The nice thing is that Shires probably still has all of the machining, so the parts might be available.
