Help identifying old Conn

I picked up this conn trombone from Ebay but I can't figure out what model it is. From the serial number on the slide, GJ8700, I think it's from the 70s

Any help you can offer on identifying the model, year and location of manufacture would be appreciated

Looks to me like a 50H Director. Especially if it takes a small shank mouthpiece.

So it's a "bass" trombone with a small shank mouthpiece and plays like a tenor?

I've been out of playing brass for about 9 years (Tuba player by training but started on trombone) but my son is starting band and chose trombone. So I bought him a Yamaha student model and picked this up so I could play with him and give him some lessons. I think it will work fine for that but the overall purpose of this model is a head scratcher.

Yes, 50H Director, .525 slide. Conn's intermediate back in the 60's/early 70's.

It's not a true bass trombone, although it could serve as one for a beginner learning F-attachment. As Mamaposaune said, it's an intermediate tenor. When your son wants his first F-attachment horn this one will be ideal.

Awesome, that is exactly what I was thinking of doing when he was ready for a better instrument. I may even get the dents removed. The slide is surprisingly good.
