Conn 88H - "Christian Lindberg" engraved

Dear Trombone-Specialists,

I have a question about an "old" trombone and it is the Conn 88H - "Christian Lindberg" (engraved) with gold lacquer finish and gold brass outer slide.

The serial number is "5 551047".

Can you tell me what is special about this model (compared to other models)?
When this trombone was built (detailed information)?
And whether a suspension is built into the slide as standard?

Im going off what ive seen trombone shops listing this as but its just a normal 88H but with a yellow bell.
It must of been the trombone he used befor he moved to a silver bell and that big valve.

Yes Conns do have a spring in the slide as standerd.

As Matt has said, the only difference is the yellow brass bell and predates the big valve etc

I like the yellow bell 88H a lot. If it's for sale at a good price, I recommend it highly.

I used to have an 88HYCL. Great horn. Some days I wish I could go back in time and not have sold it.

But when I look for the serial number on the list, it starts with a 5 and then a 6 digit number, doesn't that mean the instrument should be newer (>2000) rather than 1984? Or am I misunderstanding this?

I am offered to buy 88HYCL in good condition for $ 2000. Is this a good price?

Our then second trombonist bought one in the late 1980s/early 1990s....he liked the blow, but it sounded truly dreadful....we had a name for it that I cannot repeat in these times of PC. I wouldn't touch one with a very long barge-pole. On normal 88Hs he sounded awesome...it was without doubt the instrument.

I think there's a big difference between the old Christian Lindberg-engraved 88Hs and the successor 88HCL with the new, larger Lindberg CL2000 rotor valve made (I think) since early 2000s.

I have a pristine 88HCL and - after getting the valve properly adjusted (and using a compatible mouthpiece) - think it's a fine trombone with a nice full, warm sound, including through the F-attachment tubing. I've received compliments on it from a couple of professional symphony orchestra trombonists.

An older Lindberg-engraved 88H with the original 88H valve is probably not worth $2,000. And even an 88HCL would have to be pretty special to fetch such a high price in the U.S.

Now I understand. Of course the price in Russia - and other countries - will be higher than in the U.S.A.

As previously noted, I believe that this is a nominally-standard closed-wrap Conn 88H, but with a yellow brass bell instead of a rose brass bell and perhaps the larger rotor valve that was used on the Benge 190 / 165F (and King 4BF?) - and of course Christian Lindberg's signature engraving! It was indeed made some time after 2000, according to the serial number.

The Conn 88HCL (not this one) has an open-wrap F-attachment and the larger CL2000 valve; standard versions have a rose brass bell, but I think also available with a yellow brass bell.

If the one you're looking at is in good condition (it certainly looks so), it should be a very nice trombone.
