If you look at similar sold items on ebay, they sell for less than $1200, as low as $6xx. Be careful how you list it. You may also choose to sell on Facebook to avoid ebay traps.

It looks like it’s in pretty good shape. I’d list it for $1200, and gladly accept an offer of $900 if it was mine. Since it’s not super old or rare or anything, he can’t expect much more than that.

Looks to be in great shape! I agree, if you plan to sell online you can expect $1200

What I would recommend is to reach out to high school and middle school band directors in your area to see if they have a student looking to upgrade. You might be able to get $1200-1800.

This all also depends on how urgent your friend wants to sell the horn.

What are "ebay" traps to be aware of? I may be a bit naive and have only sole a couple of things over the years on Ebay.

Thanks

Just remember Ebay takes 10% of the sale and the buyer has to pay sales tax which will make the final sale price go up.

The only advantages of selling thru ebay is it gets seen by a larger audience and the seller gets a shipping discount.

Beyond that it's a gamble. The vintage of your friends 88H is sorta common at the moment. And some pricier horns have been going for less than they should.

In the end its a gamble.

Dillon Music is a good place to check for horn values. They have quite a few used. 88Hs on the site now, from $995 to $1,895. See how your friend’s horn looks compared to those. Also, they will sell a horn on consignment for a 20% cut, which is quite reasonable given their national reach

Ebay would not be the place I would go. I would suggest he place it on the this forum.
