Reviews/opinions on Davis/Feder "Brass Buzz?"

Post by calcbone »

Hi...

So, my son is getting ready to start out as a beginner... on tuba! Not sure what gave him that crazy idea! :???:

But anyway... I was looking at method books on Hickeys to help him get started over the summer, and Brass Buzz seems to stand out at least by description. But, do any of you experienced teachers on here have an opinion to share on the series?

Thanks,

I use this book a lot, it’s really great and the backing tracks are fun to play along with. Michael Davis’ way of explaining concepts is also very easy to understand.

I don’t use it with absolute beginners though, I’d recommend starting on a beginner method book like the ‘Learn to play the Tuba’ by Gouse, or Accent on Achievement. AoA also has good backing tracks and is pretty user friendly. After he can play an 8ve or so he’ll be right to use the Brass Buzz as a fundamentals/warm up routine.
