Gus Mancusco

Post by spangy »

I thought I'd share this fun find.
I picked up this record the other day ;

Its great. Gus really swings.
Here is a youtube link;

He's not a trombone player but who doesn't love a jazz Baritone!
Kind of makes me wonder why there is more Baritone/Euphonium in jazz.

It reminded me a little bit of Bennie Green and Kai Winding.

I've had a copy since the Mid-50's ---- and on RED vinyl ! Dig that Cal Tjader and Gene Wright are sidemen ! I think Gus played at the "Pythodd" where Ron Carter, Larry Combs [Chicago Symphony] and Chuck Mangione spent some early formative years. American legends !

Awesome. :good:
Gus is a Las Vegas institution. He was still performing up until the shut down I believe.
I crossed paths with him a few times when I was in high school and college.
(And by crossed paths I mean in the same room and possibly as an audience member. :lol:
Although, I do have a vague memory of him clinic-ing our high school jazz band. But alas, my memories may not be that reliable :? )
