Carl Fontana

Post by Matt K »

Realized today that I have very little Carl Fontana in my library. I've got:

https://www.discogs.com/release/5838590 ... rl-Fontana
https://www.discogs.com/release/2828092 ... f-The-Crop

If I have anything else, he's a sideman on it and I can't search for it in my library. What albums am I missing out on?

viewtopic.php?f=10&t=25674 (from which the Wayne Newton Christmas Song... I know, I know... is a stunningly perfect example of his accompanimental playing)

https://www.discogs.com/artist/302498-C ... ana?page=1 ... of which most notably The Great Fontana, Hanna-Fontana Band Live at Concord, and all the duo/shared billing albums (Jiggs, Rosolino, Allen Hermann - a particular favorite, Andy Martin)

Check out his work with Supersax, absolutely phenomenal
Salt Peanuts!

Here's most of his solo / leader stuff:

(Allmusic is a fantastic resource if you're not familiar)

Enjoy the journey!

There's a fellow in Japan who has a page with an excellent list. I cannot quite find it right now. Mostly uses characters I cannot read. My phone has 14g on it, so I always get phones with lotsa memory.

This is great, just ordered about 8! Realized I already have the Great Fontana album, but it didn't make it in my last switch back to iTunes for some reason. Thanks everyone!

All great, and I want to make sure you’re aware of his co-led date with Bobby Shew, “Heavyweights”.

I love his playing on Stan Kenton's "Cuban Fire" album. Great solos on "Recuerdos" and "Quien Sabe"

This is a hip record. Check out Emily in 4/4 starting at 56:30.
