My director tried to enforce something like that but some parents complained to the school about “discrimation”. Anyways, what he had us do is just cut a hole in a cloth mask where it overlaps normally so that when we don’t play it would still close. I still use mine and can provide pics if you want.

Check if there’s a glob of solder in the tuning slide, one of colleagues is not a trombone player and left a glob of solder in a tuning slide and didn’t feel a difference. I did, felt like what you described

Something that my teacher started me on is limiting yourself to only a couple notes and not too complex rhythms. Forcing yourself into a box and just getting comfortable improvising easy stuff really helped me. I’m no elliott mason, and probably won’t ever be, but i think i’m still better than the a...

Might want to look into a 2b, silver plated 2bs are a lot more common and you could still keep your 3b to fill a different roll if needed. Or even cheaper, a conn 4h
