Re: Mute Question

Looks vaguely like a very cheap plastic mute I had in the 1970s.

Can't remember the make.

Re: 7th Position

My arm is too short to guarantee 7th in tune so on bass I always use T2. Of course on my straight 42 I have no option but to stretch out and use 7th.

Re: Bach 1864 case fit?

I have a straight 42 in a similar but not identical case. Mine has the two mouthpiece holes nearer the middle and an open box shaped area at the right hand end.

Re: Favorite Mouthpieces?

Wick 2AL for bass that I've had since about 1980. I also have a Schilke 58 but rarely use it, the 2AL seems to work fine. I've only just acquired an older Bach 42 straight tenor so am in the process of choosing between the Bach 6.5AL that came with it, my trusty old (1979) Wick 4AL and a (new) Wick ...

Re: Conductors that use trombones as scapegoats

Did you see the Proms performance of the Mozart Requiem where the small chorus sat in amongst the orchestra? The trombones then sat next to the appropriate chorus section and not together. Can't remember who it was playing.

Re: Pleasant Surprise

It's gone in for a slide service and clean up and Bryce pointed out the bell is unlacquered, hence the "character".

Pleasant Surprise

I was getting ready for our normal orchestral rehearsal last night when I was collared by the principal clarinet who said that he had an 'old trombone' at home and I'm having a clear out so it's yours if you want it. I said of course I'll take it and he showed me a small photo of it in the case. The...

I have a soft spot for the Commonwealth Games having competed in 1998 in Kuala Lumpur. I have some good friends involved in the Gold Coast too.

Ronnie
Sweet! What did you compete in?

Tuning in slide (never noticed that) would make it a 60H I think.

Re: Forum Heading

* I agree with Ronnie, I'd prefer if the bell and slide were parallel to each other, even if it's not 100% realistic. It'd feel stronger, more balanced, more intentional, less "I had to draw it this way because that's the way my photo was." Actually that's not what I meant. Slide and bell are very ...

Re: Bone socks? (for stands, not feet)

Yeah - when you pick your horn up off the stand and the whole stand comes with it - that sucks. Especially on a gig. The frst time I used my K&M stand at home that tried to happen so I put a sock on it. I've also met someone who said the reason they had a sock was to stop it squeaking when he remov...

Re: Forum Heading

I meant that ALLCAPS wouldn't be as legible as MixedCase not that we should add a space :) Being a bit nitpicky, but does anyone else find the fact the bell stays aren't parallel slightly annoying? Ronnie I've never had a trombone that had them parallel! That would be an uncomfortable horn to hold ...

I just use the case that cam with the trombone. Don't really like it but a new one would be more than the cost of the trombone. :-)

Re: Horn stand when you go home

I only have one stand (K&M) so it's used at home and at concerts/rehearsals. I do use a sock but one of my old ones not a bone sock as I've not found them for sale over here yet.

Re: Forum Heading

Not so sure I like the flatness of the image of the trombone esepecially since it's a real trombone it just looks odd to me. Would perhaps work if it wasn't a real image,or if it was a straight trombone as the vavle rap looks really odd. Have to agree it doesn't work on the dark background.
