Re: Why are earlier horns better?

I don't think it's so much that they're better, but different. With companies that have been around for a long time like Bach, many things change in their manufacturing and design process so there may be things about the older horns that people tend to like more than the modern horns. They're not re...

Re: Do you play bass or tenor? Double? And why?

I started off on saxophone for about 5 years before being introduced to trombone my senior year of high school. We were doing Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella and there were no saxophone spots, and the one trombonist in the band didn't want to play in the pit, so that left a spot open for me. It...

WTB: Shires Bass Ledpipe

I'm looking for a Shires bass leadpipe or leadpipe collar. I'd be interested in anything between a 1 and 2.5 or if you have a beat up or cheap pipe that I can take the threaded collar off of, I'd be interested in that as well.

Thanks!

You could do it, but it doesn't work very well. I tried it once for fun and it was a loose fit but technically, it played. Wasn't very easy to play especially in the low register.

I used a neotech grip on my Edwards bass. It's a brace than others but I've always found it really conformable. It doesn't work for everyone but may be worth a shot.

Re: Trumpet tuning slide question for a tech

I'm not sure exactly what kind of metal it is, but it's fairly common on trumpet slides. To get it out, use a penetrating oil or corrosion cracker along with some heat and lots of patience. Getting some WD40 in there should help and if you use heat, be careful to not hurt the lacquer or unsolder any...

Re: What makes the bass trombone challenging to learn?

One challenge I've come across with bass is range. As mentioned before, low range can be difficult but I find high range even more difficult. We're expected to have the a similar range to tenor trombones which can be hard to handle having to play down to low pedal tones all the way up to many ledger...

I had one of these a few years ago when I first started bass. It played well and I used it for concert and jazz band and it worked great for both.
