Re: FS: Holton TR180

Do you know what it weighs? I usually think of Holtons as a bit lighter.

A few trombone bits

I have a newer squarer Edwards Gb paddle (not the entire lever, just the paddle) and a Leather Specialities XL leather hand grip. Both were only used for about a couple of days. If you are interested send me a PM, and lets see what we can work out. I will be happy to discount if packaged together.

Re: Lightweight bright indy bass trombone for big band ?

Doesn't Latzsch make a light weight bass? No experience with it, and I know it is kind of pricey. Anyone have experience with the Courtois 502? I tried a Yamaha YBL-830 that I thought was lighter than some basses. I may not be the best person to ask as I play an Edwards dependent with Thayers. Its w...

I use one on my tenor in conjunction with Sheridan's Get a grip. I would agree with Harold about the grip tension.

I am looking for the older style Edwards Gb paddle. I believe someone once referred to it as a bassoon key. Sent me a PM if you one you want to part with one.

Re: Healthy trombonist group?

I recently went through difficulties with my hands/wrists/elbow, etc. The pain would start in my hands and move all the way up to my neck. I went to a physical therapist who specializes in hand injuries. What my care team decided was the computer was causing the vast majority of my issues. If you ha...

Re: Thoughts on two basses

I had a chance to try a few other basses the other night. None of the ones mentioned, but basically concluded I need to focus on strengthening the muscular structure that is used to support the horn. I tried the Neotech grip as well. I couldn't find a comfortable way to hold the horn with it attache...

Thoughts on two basses

Anyone have any experiences or own a Courtois AC502B or a Yamaha YBL-620? As many have seen I am in the search for a lighter bass. The only one I have found to be a possibility so far is the Yamaha YBL-830 which weighed in a 5 lbs.

Edwards CR valves

Anybody have experience with Edwards' CR valve option on bass trombone? Does it come in a dependent setup? Cost of either setup (just the valve set)? Are they lighter (weight) than Thayers?

Re: Favorite Mouthpieces?

I've also really liked the Stork BT 1.5 Heavy (std. backbore). I played a Stork 1.5S for almost 7 years before switching to various DE combos. Another "smaller" one that I have liked is the Griego 2 in the New York blank. I don't play on either of these anymore because I need a bit more room for th...

I also like Doug's mouthpieces. I play XT 105N (Lexan), F+ and G cups, G8 shank on tenor and LB 113MW (Lexan), J and K cups, J9 and K8.5 shanks on bass. I find the Lexan to be really comfortable.

Re: I’m thinking about a Courtois AC-440B. Any thoughts?

I played one at Baltimore Brass recently. I thought it was great. I tried several other horns, including a few wonderful Adams tenors (also great horns). I kept coming back to the Courtois. It seemed like it had brilliance without being bright. It felt very balanced in my hand, and was not heavy (ar...

Re: Lightest weight Bass Trbs

I have recently tried a few bass trombones in search a lighter model I liked. I liked the Yamaha YBL-830, and it weighs in at approximately 5 lbs. My Edwards B454-DE weighs approximately 5 lbs 12 oz. with a DE mouthpiece. I play a 22 gauge bell, and was able to recently try a 23 gauge bell. The diff...

I am looking for a lighter bass trombone after experiencing numbness and pain with my left hand, arm, and shoulder. I wish there was something modern that was lighter. Yamaha YBL-830 experiences

I tried a Yamaha YBL-830 yesterday on a whim, and really liked the horn. The Gb/D valve lever is adjustable, but I was unable to adjust due to the screw being overtightened. Unfortunately, I was unable to find a comfortable way to hold the horn. I noticed that part of the lever is square rather than...
