Re: Bach NY era mouthpieces

Next question... What about aging (of the material, not the player :hi: )? I already know about that! For example, I have been told (at a place of manufacture, not Bach) that brass has to sit for a while before being drawn into slide tubes, ostensibly so the bass molecules can "settle" and not "warp...

Re: Bach NY era mouthpieces

Sorry for taking the off ramp into consistency. I guess I went there because of the comparison to modern counterparts. The OP was wondering what made the NY and MV play and sound different, which is a great question, apparently already discussed in great detail. He did not claim that they were bette...

Re: Bach NY era mouthpieces

CNC mouthpieces.... more consistent...really ??? Ok, ok. Sorry! Clarification...my post was getting long and so I didn't explain every detail of my claim. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to dig myself out. Given a "run" on the CNC, my experience is that they are pretty darned consistent, barri...

Re: Bach NY era mouthpieces

Similarly to others commenting above, I have owned Bach mouthpieces from all eras. Like the instruments made in the corresponding eras, there are good and bad from each. I can't help but chuckle at the perceived value of the words New York, Mount Vernon, Corporation, etc. (and I own/have owned all o...

Re: Guess who this young trombone player is...

First met him in the mid-1980s when he was on Woody's band. Saw him again in the late-1990s in Seattle. Was great to have him in Bloomington a couple of years ago. Super nice guy and a mind blowing player.

FS Conn 36H Alto SOLD

The current downtime has found me going through closets and storage spaces. I am realizing that I do not need 4 alto trombones. This 36H, made in 1991, is in beautiful condition. One tiny ding in the bell and some very minor wear at right hand contact points. Slide is great. The horn has a nice, dar...

WTB Yamaha 48A (older design)

Looking for a Yamaha 48A small shank mouthpiece. Its needs to be from approximately the early 1980s-mid 1990s, before the cup became shallower and throat became tighter. This is the model that came with the Yamaha altos. I am hoping to find one in relatively good condition, especially the rim. Thank...

Mildly in search of a Conn 35H alto. I have a really good one and would like a spare.
I just missed out on a couple that were recently for sale. :weep:

Let me know if you have one that you'd consider selling.

Thanks.

Re: Grand Rapids SO Principal Winner...Finally.

I want to clarify this. Indeed, Chris studied with me at IU this past year but I just happened to be in the right place at the right time. Chris worked with Ken Wolff during high school, was a student of Joseph Alessi at Juilliard for his freshman year and transferred to IU for his sophomore year. H...

Re: Jim Trimble

I have spent hours and hours (maybe days, weeks?) watching Buddy videos over the years but have never seen this one. It is easy to get lost in amazement. His bands are SO tight, not to mention swinging, because of Buddy's killer virtuosity. He drives them and plays every part. Only saw the band live...

First off...what a great circumstance! For such a big commemoration, you desire a new instrument and your parents are willing to help you with that. Really neat and completely exciting! That said, I must agree with those who have suggested that you wait and get input from your new trombone professor...

Hi Harold! Yes, I used to have a recording of that very Baltimore section giving a class at some trombone convention...maybe the same as you mention above. Of course, that cassette has gone the way of lots of my irreplaceable stuff: loaned to students, sadly never to return. I remember they played t...
