The only horn I have seen that has comparable build quality to the Raths is M&W. Their Bach-like tenor is out of this world.

Re: Shires Bass problems

Perhaps their choice to not move the brace was to not alter the blow of the horn as a whole. Also the real Bollinger 2nd valve slide only has a tiny bit of room to be pulled out, so I don't think that is an issue. They do make the trubores in Bollinger tuning; I'm pretty sure there's a YouTube video...

I won't name drop but there was a wonderful someone who got this info from the horse's mouth. I'll use the 1 series for example (even though the rims are different). FYI the Griegos are inbetween regular and medium GB.

GB NY1-Griego 1C
GB NY1.25-inbetween 1D-E

Re: XO 1240

I'm almost certain they are NOT genuine Thayers. Not saying they are bad; the blow is actually quite respectable. Actually the sound is the best part of the XO horns, the overall build is where they are still lacking a little bit compared to other horns. Suit your self. My 1236RL-T has a genuine Th...

Re: XO 1240

I've been playing 1240RL now for about 2.5 years. I have absolutely no complaints with it. Plays real nice and has a nice big sound. No issues with range either. Blows pretty open through the vales so I imagine the 'T' version would be even better in that respect. Quality and build are strictly top...

Re: WTT: Shires Q series Bass Valve Section

What if you cut down the tuning slide tubes? The actual Blair valves have just about the same width (visual estimation) but short ts legs. You would lose the little rings at the end of the female sides and maybe have to move that brace.

I technically still own one and it's a very good instrument. Not on the level of Shires or M&W but it would fit most people's needs well. I really don't know what the bore is. I went from a 62 sized horn with rotors to a dualbore with Thayers and the xo feels like neither. If I don't sell it by next...

Also I would guess a reason it's not called the Markey is because he doesn't play on it. You guessed wrong. He developed this mouthpiece and played on it quite a while after having played the Don Harwood model while in the NYP. He ultimately switched back to brass, not sure which, and therefore the...

The major arpeggios (A,Ab,G,Gb) are played with very minimal slide movement. For Haydn creation the Bb arpeggio can be played all in 1st (yes t...
