Re: Conn 6h

At one time in the 1950s the 6H was used by the whole of the Stan Kenton trombone section. At this time Conn said that it was used and preferred by many of the nation's top professionals in TV and radio. They also said that "this fine trombone has a specially designed modified large straight bore th...

Re: Dixieland fake books

Over the years, I have seen several posts about the 'Firehouse' that say there is a Bb version. But I have to admit I have never seen it. Not that I need one myself because I always use the best version of a tune I can find in my big personal library, including the ones I have mentioned, and then pu...

Whilst I prefer my Band-in-a-box, there is a great play-along available on sale from Jamie Aebersold Jazz Books, right now: http://www.jazzbooks.com/jazz/product/V133DS?mc_cid=6ab3577646&mc_eid=cef4191dfa I don't need to tell you what is my favourite style of jazz! Re: Play Along Suggestions - what do you prefer?

Over the years, I have invested a lot of money into play-alongs but I never use them these days, much preferring to create my own backing tracks with Band-in-a-Box. Really, the easiest of any music software to do the notation. As they say: "Band-in-a-Box® is so easy to use! Just type in the chords f...

I guess it depends on the style/s of jazz you follow. However, for 'hot' jazz, in my opinion: John Allred (1962) Ray Anderson (1952) David Baker (1931-2016) Chris Barber (1930) Bob Brookmeyer (valve trombone), (1929-2011) Lawrence Brown (1907–1988) George Brunies (1902–1974) George Chisholm (1915–19...

I still think the best way to go with playalongs is to create the files yourself using Band-in-a-Box, as I have been doing for nearly 20 years.
