Re: What we're doing

It's been a while since I checked in. I had a pretty busy summer. I play lead in a Sinatra big band (almost all vocals- the crowd loves this band), and a community band that lets me solos at the front of the band. I play bass in a high level rehearsal band where I'm happy to be in the room. The big ...

Re: What we're doing

We are getting into the busy summer and outdoor season here in Toronto. I'm subbing at the main veterans hospital this Sunday with a new big band. I don't even know how many trombones or what part I'm playing, but it'll be fine. The community band where I play lead will be in the same venue on Thurs...

Re: How Do You Charge for Lessons?

Paragraph #2 sounds an awful lot like a 'contract' to me ;) Not really. Setting what you are going to do, how you will get paid, etc. is actually a statement of work. It brings clarity and simplicity if kept short. Contractual things, at least in my mind, include what happens if people don't pay, d...

Re: How Do You Charge for Lessons?

Personally, I avoid the use of the word "contract". To my mind, contracts are fairly wordy and describe at great length when things go wrong, and usually contain legalese that is only useful for lawyers looking to be in court. Who you gonna sue? Besides the Ghostbusters, there isn't enough money inv...

Re: Trombone quartet arrangements

Add anything / everything by Jack Gale. Off the top of my head:

Alexander's Ragtime Band (goes through many styles of jazz)
St. Louis Blues (need a strong bass bone)
Tiger Rag

Also, there are a couple of arrangements of the Hallelujah Chorus.

Re: British Brass Band arrangements with organ and/or choir?

I played in a church brass band (British BB instrumentation) for over 30 years. The organ in the church was massive, #42 in the world. We played one or two pieces with the organ per year. None are on your list, and many were done again. One that comes to mind was In Dulci Jubilo at Christmas time, a...

Re: Back again

Does this mean that all those bookmarks I've accumulated over the years to all the really great info on the TTF are gone? That's sad, and too bad. Likely so. I imagine rebuilding a busy server with 10,000+ members and 15+ years of history is not a small job. Considering this activity is being done ...
