WTB: Conn78H parts

Hi all,

Does anyone happen to have any leftover 78H parts, or better yet a horn with a crushed bell?
Doesn't have to be complete, I've got a bell flare I'm looking to work up a frankenbone with.
Let me know what you have, all ideas considered.

thanks

Jim

Re: WTB Bach 5g Small Shank

The 5G SS is great, I've got one and love it in certain 525s.
On anything smaller it's kinda weird, useable but a strange response.
It kinda works for a faux alto vibe on a 500 if you want to keep the feel the same feel as a big tenor, but it's super squirrelly. Not recommended, but can be fun.

David Gibson plays regularly, sometimes with the George Gee big band.
Great player, also fun gig if you like watching swing dancers.
Also Zinc Bar.
Sometimes you can catch Frank Lacy playing a jam at Smalls.

John Duda is still making Williams parts. You should be able to get a pipeless inner from him.

Re: Switching from music ed to music performance

It’s been a while since I’ve been in school, but I think my sentiments still stand. Fwiw these are opinions. Don't worry about graduating in time. I never felt like I could afford it, I always felt like I should power through, and it was a big mistake. I still regret it decades later. I know a numbe...

Not sure if this had been asked before, I hadn't seen it.
On the category navigation pages the "last post by" member is identified, but not the thread originator.
Anyone else think that might be a good piece of info?

Re: What do you do when people don't like your sound?

Hey Philip, when I tried that horn a K worked pretty well, better than an L for me. I was using a 9 shank, the 8 would probably help as well.
Doug's guess on time would be my 1st guess, too.

Re: New Conn 88H’s made in Elkhart

New construction is super inconsistent. Some of the parts are pretty good, but it seems like qc is seriously lacking. If you find a good one and get it blueprinted it could be a great horn.
And to the last picture, blame the shop.
That’s just unacceptable, your student should try to take it back.

Re: Jazz trombone advice?

Below is a link to an article from Sam Burtis from a number of years ago. Today there would be more Shires and Raths on the list, but the sentiment would be the same. A tighter, brighter, more powerful sound helps lead a section, and that usually comes from usually a straight .500ish bore horn. For ...

Re: Mics advice

I've used all of these and would prefer the Beta98 to all except the RE20.
The MD441 isn't bad, but not my favorite.
For any pop / rock recording stuff I've had best results with an RE20 mixed with a Beta 57 or 58 next to each other.

Re: Screw rim mouthpiece modification

I've had cups threaded, and you definitely want someone who knows what they're doing. Certain things do change, as some things (at least for me) are directly related to the cup or rim specifically. But hopefully the things that change are the things you want to change. Basic sound and most of the re...

Re: Modern Bach 6.5 vs Faxx 6.5 Build Differences?

I've found that many different mouthpiece manufacturers vary quite a bit from one piece to the next. I've had some very good success going to a larger shop, and spending time playing every copy of a particular size that they have. Once I spent half an hour going through 20 different 5Gs. It might no...

Re: Screwbell Pricing

$400 to $500 is accurate. I've had John Sandhagen do 2 for me, one ring from Shires and one from Instrument Innovations. The Shires is lighter, and the screw is tighter / a little tougher to get lined up. The Instrument Innovations is a lot closer to the old Holton screw feel, but it is a bit heavie...
