Re: The second mouthpiece phenomenon
I just face the same situation ... I got to test two new MP's 3 days ago: - Klier Exclusive 6B (25,75mm, medium deep, 6,8mm bore) - Klier Exclusive 7D (25,5mm, shallow, 6,0mm bore) After 3 days excessive playing in comparison with my Bachs 6 1/2 A/AL/AM and 15C ... with every minute I drift further ...

Re: Screw-on Bells
I play a Lawler Model 3 and indeed with changing the flares (material, diameter, material thickness) one can change the sound drastically from clear bright lead to very soft mellow. Big advantage is the really small case (about size of a violin case) and compared to my King 5b, the Lawler 3 is reall...

Damn Edward, this is one heck of an awesome history lesson ... I was glued to your lips. Very well done video and instrument comparison. I wouldn't have expected such a big difference. I recently had a Thein (kind of an early Maxim version from 1981) at home to test against Conn 4H, King 2b, Rath R1...

You guys help a lot .... that sounds very promising to me. I just have to disagree with johntarr about the red flare sound. With Flugelhorns and red brass bells you get the most warm and mellow sound, it would surprise me if it's vice versa with trombones. Since I am always open for new things, teac...

I have a questions to the experienced lawler players: 1. My model 3 (red brass stem, yellow brass main crook and neck pipe) came with a #5 Leadpipe. Since I love the more open sound, does anyone of you have played Roy's Pipes #5, #10 and #15 in comparison? Or should I go for a Rath R1 or Shires? 2. ...

A Lawler 3 I can call my own, now. What an amazing trombone. My most favourite sound at the moment I get with a 0.025 7.75" bronze flare. Just the #15 leadpipe is not my favourite, yet. I tried a Shires To #1 Sterling silver which sounds great and a Rath 1 standard which sounded very open as well. I...

It's very important to keep your outer slide clean and dry. My tech suggests (and I comply) cleaning and drying the inside of the outer slide every day before storing. For this I also use the H-W Brass-Saver (inner and outer slides), followed by the Slide-O-Mix towel sheath. Air out both inner and ...

Facts and fun (hyperbolica and harrisonreed), you guys enlighten my heart.
As a scientist I can only confirm harrisonreed's lines. Just testing myself a custom horn with different changeable alloy parts ... makes my ears, eyes and believe super wide!

Just checked the net here in Europe .... no used Courtois 402 or Shires MD or MD+ availlable.
But I found a shop in Belgium who has both instruments new in stock. I will call them on monday if I can pass by and test them .... if I am lucky, they send them for testing to my home.

I promise to play it different from die 5b ..... usually I let die instruments guide me since they all have their own character.
